All of my children have had the opportunity to be worn by me. I absolutely love baby carriers. I remember my first one clearly because it was made by me. Then I found the awesomeness of soft structured carriers. BabyBjörn asked me to review their new Baby Carrier One, and I was very excited. I have owned other carriers by BabyBjörn, but none like this. The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One is very versatile. It is designed to accommodate babies from 8lbs to 33lbs!
- The Baby Carrier One is for use with newborns (minimum 8 pounds) to age approximately age three (maximum 33 pounds)
- Four position options. Front carrying in or outward facing. Back carrying in or outward facing.
- Ergonomic design with back distribution and a waist belt for added parental and babe comfort.
- All fabrics safety tested and free from hazardous chemicals.
- Machine washable
- Extra secure
The minimum age for the outward facing position is 5 months and the maximum weight for this position is 26lbs. You can also wear older babies on your back. Aria is currently 19 lbs at 13 months and we have no issues with any of the four positions.
There is also a leg zipper that allows a natural leg position for newborns (0-4 months) facing inward and for children 5 months and older in an outward facing position and a normal (wide) leg position for babies 4-36 months. Not many carriers offer these nice adjustments to accommodate baby’s growth and comfort. I was actually quite surprised by this feature.
The straps are padded a bit more than I would have expected for such a light weight carrier. Once I took it out of the box however, I knew that I would love it. It's a no frills carrier that does what it is intended. It has the same patented buckles that “click” to let you know the buckle is securely fastened. It sort of reminds me of a seat belt.
The added safety to bring baby closer to you.
The Baby Carrier One easily slips over your head like a shirt. You can easily buckle and unbuckle to allow the child to easily be put into the carrier. The diagram below is from their website. It details how easy it is to put on and use.
Aria enjoys the act of baby wearing more than her siblings ever did. It makes going out to parks and event easier. A good carrier is important, and it can even replace a stroller. I believe it makes every day tasks easier. Soft and comfortable for your child with a padded seat, outward seams and adjustable width for the leg position. There is also a sturdy adjustable head support that can be folded down when the baby is facing outwards.
This carrier does not have a sun shield. But for some that isn't a problem. I just would like that as an option. I had never used a carrier that had buckles, so it did take some getting used to. The fact that they made putting the ONE carrier on easy definitely helped me get over that. The fact is, I am a mom of three. I need a basic carrier that is easy to put on and won't require a lot of adjustment. BabyBjörn will never cease to amaze me with their products. This is a necessity for a baby registry or even a Christmas gift.
