LooHoo Dryer Balls Review
#accessorizestash

If you own cloth diapers, you are probably aware of wool dryer balls and how amazing they are. If not, I would like to share some insight - get some! Even if you do not use cloth diapers, you can use these in your clothing laundry.

I have a family of 5, as you can imagine, the laundry quickly piles up around here. More laundry equals more power. In the end, that means more money out of my pocket that I don't have to give. It's a viscous cycle, but I didn't no any different. Until I came across dryer balls! There are so many types of dryer balls, but Wool are my favorite! The way that they absorb moisture is unlike any other on the market.

What is a Wool dryer ball?

  • It  is a felted ball of wool that you use in your clothes dryer to help separate your clothes. Having several in your dryer creates a constant motion that allows for more air to circulate around your wet laundry so your clothes will dry faster. The more dryer balls you use, the less time it takes to dry a load and you can reduce your dry time by 10 –25%.  Not to mention conserving energy and money.

These are not the first dryer balls that I have used! The others work fine. But strange enough they seem to get a sort of build up. I'm not even sure if that is the correct word for this. But here it is. Sure they have been used a few more times, but this happened after Just a week of use. LooHoo is also much firmer. Which I believe is better.
The white is brand #1 - Purple is LooHoo.

Starter packs of 3 are a perfect amount for those that are new to using LooHoo Wool Dryer Balls.  Ideal for small to medium loads in apartment or regular-size dryers.  Packaged in a fun, dryer-shaped box.

About LooHoo
I learned about wool dryer balls in 2009.  When we made the decision to cloth diaper our son, I realized that we would have to give up using dryer sheets.  At first I really was sorry to see them go.  They eliminated static, and added very fragrant smells to our laundry.  But after doing some research, and learning about the harmful chemicals that are in dryer sheets and the negative impact they can have on clothes and on your dryer, I was happy to make a change and consider a more natural, healthy alternative.  That’s when I discovered wool dryer balls.  I purchased some online, they worked great and I started to see all the benefits that they offered, but the quality was lacking and only lasted a few months before they started to unravel.  So, I gave it a shot and tried to make some of my own.  I have a creative background and have always loved to make things so it was and is a lot of fun going through the trial and error stage to come up with a solid finished product.  During this time, I had taken New Ventures course through Women Work and Community and have known for awhile that I wanted to start and run my own business.  In October 2010, I launched LooHoo (formerly Wooly Rounds).  I love that this business is really about providing a sustainable alternative that will help protect your family’s health and that helps to reduce our impact on the environment.

What is so great about them is that they are way better than any fabric sheet. Not because they have no chemicals that could be harmful, but because they save you money and time! Sometimes I throw a shirt in the dryer to release wrinkles, and these definitely help with that. Clothes come out static free, and smelling amazingly clean!

You can Purchase LooHoo dryer balls in packs or singles! Gift them for the holidays or keep them for yourself! I do recommend that you use 8+ balls to help insure the best drying time. While 3 will reduce the time and static immensely more works best!So Sew Mama will be giving a way a pack of LooHoo Dryer balls during the Accessorize your Stash giveaway Hop!

  4. We got our first set of dryer balls about 2 months ago. My husband was incredibly skeptical, but I just told him he could choose to use them if he wanted, no big deal. About two weeks ago he told me he loved them - he said he would have never bought them himself but was so glad we had them - he most of all loves the reduced drying time!

I haven't tried LooHoos yet and would love to compare brands to see which ones work best!

  11. I've never heard of the build-up issue - but nice to know that you like these ones and that they are "firmer" than others. Haven't tried any yet...still trying to do my research.

  17. Nice review. I have one sad little dryer ball that I need to get friends for. I have one that is scented so it makes the clothes smell great and no need for fabric softner sheets! I originally got one because I was looking into cloth diapering and discovered that dryer sheets are a no-no!

  27. This is probably the best dryer all review I have seen. I have other dryer balls (another brand), but I'm always looking for more. I've been using dryer balls for over a year now and something you said just got me thinking. When I used dryer sheets, about once a month I would brush the lint catcher. I just realized that not only have I not done this since I can remember, but when I just double checked, it doesn't need it. The dryer sheets were causing the lint catcher to block up beyond just pulling the lint out!!

  30. This review helped explain the whole dryer ball thing more clearly for me. I had been seeing a lot about them since I've decided to start using cloth, but no reviews until now. Although, I do know a cloth diaper accesory review is coming up this week from another blog I read a lot. Anywho, thanks for the input!!

  31. I would love to try these dryer balls for my laundry!

  32. I would love to try your LooHoo's! I use wool balls but like you said, they have some sort of build up on them. I guess its really just lint. But the wool balls do a really good job of reducing static and they soften your clothes. It is recommended that you use 6 for a medium load but I only have 3 because I gave some to my daughter in law.

  33. I currently dry everything outside and it takes SO long to get the inserts completely dry! I don't have any wool dryer balls but I plan on budgeting to purchase some in the next few months...it may shorten my wash routine A LOT!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love the packaging and the colors of the wool balls! I haven't used them, but would love them for my cloth diapers as the inserts always stick together!

  35. I love that these are actually colored. I keep hearing great reviews about different brands of dryer balls. This is the first I've heard of this one.
